A ZPI FPS based on Assault Cube.

We shall call it, Zpi Cube, or something to that effect.

I've been throwing up a suggestion for a ZPI fps, based upon Assault Cube, to the other FM's and Mods and I've decided to go ahead with this project.
What this would entail would be us as a site determining what we want done with this; remember nothing too ambitious, this is a simple game engine and we are a small community.

This would be a project that would require minimal effort but a lot of planning as we all need to agree on the final construction and what we want.

Basing it off the Open Source game Assault Cube would allow us to start the project 99.5% completed. However what we need to decide upon is how much we want to personalize the game; do we want to merely change the textures and a couple of meshes as well as the splash screens. Or do we want to add new models and redesign entire game modes.

If we choose the easiest option the game could be ready in a couple of weeks with the support of members in their offtime; however if we choose the more advanced of the options it could be a couple of months in the making.

Alternatively we could choose both, this would allow us to get the game out earlyand subsequently release a much better game in the following months.

PS: ALL the coding, image editing, mesh creation and animations are to be done by us, though based upon the Assault cube game; this means we will be working in offtime and that we shouldn't get ambitious if this project is ever to get off the ground.

Pros:

  • A personalized game for ZPI.
  • FPS multiplayer fun with up to 64 players.
  • Free.
  • Personalized avatars for some of the longer term members of the site.
  • Easy to host.
  • Runs on all major OS's, including Linux.
  • Low system requirements.
  • Easy to host with a BitTorrent Client.
  • Cons:

  • Large file size (Possibly 200-300 MB).
  • Lobby would need to be hosted.
  • May take a while to develop if we go for an advanced option.
  • EDIT:
    It seems the developers have reduced the DL size to 40MB; this may help solve the problem of the large file size if we can use the same packaging method.
