Now then, First things first, your inventory. Hopefully if you have been training for such an occasion when the dead rise from the ground since you were around 8(like me) then you will have many things onhand, however in the initial getting started with a Fortress of Survival, heres a few things you will need.

1st: A weapon (or more) Namely a ranged and close combat weapon. I would recomend a Glock 9mil, solid body, which is light weight from mostly plastic parts, requires very little care, has a relitively large clip size. As for close range, generaly anything, Persoanlly along with a few ranged weapons(the above included) I keep one of louisville's finest with a saw blade stuck in the end and bolted into place, The blade being ground down to a nice axe edge on a bench grinder, Anything should suffice, just make sure its not going to slow you down.

2nd: A radio that has multiple power adaption things (can use AC outlet, DC batterys, and Kenetic crank.) They are sometimes hard to find but you can order them at radioshack if they don't have one near you.

3rd: any medicines that you will die without (Heartpills, Insolin, and for me Cigarettes and weed), You will however not be having a large supply of any of these things (Except Weed, you pothead) Since usually you cannot get more than a 30day supply, What if it takes you longer than 30days to find a good place? or what if you were schedualed to get it refilled in 2 days and then BAM zombie outbreak? well when considering where to use for a strong hold this is one of the things you will need to keep in mind(That is if I don't remember later)

4th: Naturally something light weight to eat that will keep you going, ID suggest a few MRE rations, if you are on a budget and cannot afford to get more, don't worry their will be much looting later on anyways,besides who are you gonna pay? The zombie clerk that wants brains instead of money? get real.

5th: Some friends, if you are in a jam, who comes to help? so you obviously need to be thinking of that aspect too, depending how realistic it is in you getting to your family would determine wether or not to get them also, I would highly recomend it though, as extra hands will be few and far between(Live ones atleast) CAUTION!!!!! If you can get to your beloved mother and she has already been attacked, do the sensible thing and put her out of her misery.

6th: A good attack dog would be helpful, maybe they won't want it since its brain is different I dunno, I don't have a dog anymore, he got hit by a car and it was very sad, But should you get a dog, attack lessons for it could very well save your life, bear that in mind.

7th: a small head lamp of prospector fame, however smaller cheaper lighter weight longer lasting LED lights are available for like 2 bucks get one, its going to get dark and you shouldn't have your hands full of a maglite when you need them to waste some deadies.

8th: Knowledge is your best friend, I would suggest you download "The Anarchist Cookbook" and learn some quality skills, Like bomb making out of shit you can get anywhere, Lock Picking, Hot wireing, and a lot of other things.

9th: depending on if it slowed you down i would suggest a bit of armor, if you are not very athletic then some of that BMX Motor cross stuff would be good.

Well now that you have the basic supplys (Don't worry, You'll be getting more later) Put all the shit that will fit into a back pack. Lets say you are woken up by a zombie breaking into your house to taste your gray goodness, firstly you need to eliminate it(Aim for the head, If that doesn't work you need to mess it up anyway you can, if still no results just mangled peices of a corpse trying to get at you, youd better end it all now) now that you have gotten it delt with you need to secure your home, something fast and easy(you won't be here long anyways, afterall how long can you survive on the little food and bullets you have? if you are anything like me you would have smoked the last of your cigarettes writing this) Now you'd better sit down by the phone and think and shit, call your loved ones and tell them to lock and secure the house, Now sit in your thinking chair (if you don't have one, get one stupid)And plan out where you will be going, a good suggestion would be someplace like Kmart, it has tons of food and stuff you will need and hopefully not to many entrances and its not open 24hours, That is key when choosing a place, if you were to go into walmart with guns and start boarding up entrances you would be beat down by security, wait a few days and then go to walmart from Kmart or wherever you decide on. Get all the guns and ammo they have mainly guns that are packed with rounds(you probably wont have time to reload your weapons in the midst of a closing circle of the undead) go shopping later, for now seal the entrances, since you will have to break in in the first place(Lock picking would come in handy)Seal any place you breached to enter first, glass is not very strong, so reinforce it with some plywood or anything you can get your hands on followed by an application of quikcret(Fast hardening concrete) And then buttress them with long sections of whatever(if you did pick the lock remember to lock it again afterwards) don't focus on one area and then go and do another, go around and fortify every entrance that they could come into, now that that is finished have a smoke and get something to eat, I love chocolate, get what you love, but can't afford a lot of the time.Now that you are a little more rested up, time to check the fortifications, if everything is fine, put more to it, don't skimp on the cement, this time pile the shit on so its good and sturdy, now its time for something very draining, shopping, Get some new threads, those are probably covered in blood by now, get the guns and shit from the shelves, get the ammo too, now get to the back and get the guns and ammo from back there too, if you feel that others might come here to seek shelter, leave a few guns and ammo, but don't leave any guns or ammo that you could use(Besides walmart will have more anyways and unless you know how to dive a semi I doubt you will be taking a pallet of bullets anywhere with you) whenever you are done shopping check the entrances again and put on another layer of crete and buttresses, now that you have a good baracade set up, you can use regular concrete, its much tougher anyways, if I were you I would try and build up as much as you can at the entrances and shit, now then time to find a way to view the situation, TO SECURITY!, figure out the CCTV system and see what its like outside.If lots of them are begining to gather I would suggest you get ready to leave, now how to leave, since typically they don't have windows to the outside that you haven't patched over You will probably need to cut your own way out upstairs, get some power tools or anything you need to bust a hole in the wall and do so, don't worry about noise, if they are all gathered at that hole go to anothother side of the building and do it again, sooner or later they will either not be at the original or they will be to spread out to really worry aboutNow that you have you way out, look for a way of getting out away fast if you didn't drive, A van would be good so you can get all your friends and shit later, but multiple trips will work too, now then get your guns and probably cigarettes too and call your family and friends and shit and go get as many as you can carry in your conveyance, now off to walmart, try not to shoot as much as possible as the sound and flash might attract more to the area, and you don't need that(Yet)Now get your shit and park out back by the loading dock, and get inside, start the proscess of fortification immediately, start with the front doors since they are automatic turn them off, start boarding up the windows and shit just like earlier, get this area pretty good and then go onto the next, if I were you I would go and bring as much plants and shit as you can from the garden center inside since the fenced in area outside would be little use in defending, mainly you need soil, and food bearing plants as well as seeds and fertilizers and whatever else, just get it inside and seal the main doorway to the garden center's outside area, now that every entrance is fixed up, keep fixing it up, all entrances except the loading doc's strongest door, now go smoke a cig and eat something small, buttress the doors and shit again, and another time for good measure, now get your squad back together and hunt the ones that were in there that you haven't dispatched yet, all bodies should be taken to a freezer that you have moved the contents of to another one, now pack as many freezers full as it takes with the twice dead bodies(they will be useful later)Now that your shit is all fixed up, have your team keep adding to the baracades and shit while you go and get any more friends and family you didn't earlier, tell them to call theirs and take the nessicary steps, hell if you want get them all to drive to the loading dock themselves, just make sure they know where it is, now keep fixing up the barriers make sure you have someone on look out for the cars arival, get them inside and arm them,have them work on getting the place fortified and keep on getting it fortified, for the first 2 weeks of occupancy you should do it damn near constantly, once everyone has been taken in to the fort, make a baracade that you can destroy if need be and give the loading dock a few good coats of the shit.Now get to the roof, set up a collection system for rain water using barrels and whatever you think will work, now remember that soil? get to spreading, take some of the boddies and burythem, over in sporting goods you will find earth worms, Set them free in the dirt, after a few weeks stir another body into it, this proscess will make more dirt for you, as well as providing top notch growing dirt, now start planting food stuffs that will grow, if anyone is injured by a zombie chain them up to something they wouldn't be able to move and make their last hours the best of their lives, when they turn, waste em and put em in the freeze, Now here comes a good question where will you poop? the answer, on the roof, but don't pee you might fuck up the PH balance and nothing will grow, if the water isn't working pee off the side of the roof, or if female into a chamber pot and dump it over the edge, try and get the zombies with it, since it is a acid it might kill them after a long time of doing so. when bored go shoot some zombies, its a lot of fun and works on your aiming skills, if you run out of stuff to eat move onto another shopping place and repeate, after a few months maybe a year im sure the governments will be able to get shit back to seminormal, something to worry about though is raiders, and fellow looters, people who want your stuff and will think nothing of killing you to get it, A good antipersonell weapon is the explosive device, or if you can rig one up a liquid flamethrower would be grand.
