Would thrown projectiles be effective against zombies?
When I say 'thrown projectile' I mean things such as throwing knives or axes. In my opinion, they could be effective with proper training.
It depends on what type of projectile you use, axes being harder to throw accurately, but with a higher chance of penetrating/cracking the head/skull and damaging the brain because of the increased velocity due to the center of gravity/balance of the axe. Also, hatchets are less common than knives, which may make them impractical.
Knives are easier to find, though most hachets will probably be very similar, while knives can differ in shape and weight greatly, and when thrown probably won't achieve a velocity greater, or even equal, to an axe.
Axes and knives make good survival tools as well, and while throwing versions or household knives won't be as durable as survival tools, they are meant to be disposable anyways and should be treated as such: Used as a tool in survival, and as a weapon when the time comes.
Please express your opinions, and try to include the following factors if you have the time: Availability/Supply, Ease of Use, Availability of Practical Professional Training for Thrown Weapons

Sometimes I throw screwdrivers too(the end were a little bit sharp so it cant function as a screwdriver anymore). Personally, I don't really feel knife throwing could do much. On humans, maybe they will but on zeds I can't be sure. A sane human would flinch and give another opportunity to attack, but for zeds I dont think so.
That's how ninjas use their syurikens. Not really using them to kill but just as a distraction or to do minor damage. Correct me if I'm wrong.
it may come or it may not. But its not just zeds that may ruin your life
I'm with DE on this one. I don't think a thrown knife would have any effect on any type of zombie. I mean, most ideas of zombies assume they don't feel pain. Unless they are "rage" type zombies and they bled to death, i wouldn't count on it. Goblins and raiders are another story though.
I would like to point out that a 2 lbs bowie knife can impart more impact energy than a bullet. Difference is the energy is dissipated over a greater area, and the knife itself does not absorb any energy where as a bullet does. Leading to a knife bouncing off hard targets vs liquefying or fragmenting. One can also throw a knife harder than they could stab with it. Difference is a stab has weight and momentum behind it to drive the knife after impact leading to slower energy absorption.
wow thats almost a kilogram.... but it takes a long time to throw knives. Up till now, the maximum distance I get to stick them to wood is about 2m(6 ft). Either it does take a long time or I just suck at it. However, training to throw knives should be far cheaper rather than firearms. I only have 2 knives, one full tang and one folder. So, I probably wouldn't be throwing them. I guess everyone's strategy goes with what they have right...
