My son recently recieved a book as a gift, called 'The Boys Book: How To Be The Best At Everything'. At first I thought it was just a funny book, but then I actually looked at the table of contents. It has some really interesting ideas, that help kids get 'prepared' without scaring them.

For example:

How to tie three essential knots
How to give mouth to mouth resuscitation
How to make a simple raft
How to build a campfire
How to treat stings
How to read a compass
How to fall without hurting yourself... much
How to repair a flat tire
How to make a water clock
How to row a boat

Just to name a few. As a parent, I just wanted to share this with other parents. I know for me, this would be an easy way to help my kids prepare for an emergency, one of any kind.

Another good one is Hatchet. Lots of advice, especially about how important food is.

Are you refering to Gary Paulsen's novel (series) about Brian Winter? I read the first four books, not sure if any other were made. Actually I remember picking up a book by Gary Paulsen and finding the Hatchet had a different title... I took the book back and got a new one seeming I already read the original.

Let see if I can find something... Ahh here we go, an official page.

Gary Paulsen's library of Brian's saga

Otherwise check out his whole library... You'd be surprised by the content in a lot of his books... Found HERE
