The Average Joe Zombie Survival Guide [ZPI/ZHN]

Well, to start off this new topic, I would like to go back over a few things said in the prior forum discussion.

My goal with this site was to gather information slowly and form sort of a survival guide, but I wanted to keep it web based, but down loadable (that will happen eventually, just hasn't yet.)
What are you thinking for publishing? Do you want to do a paper published book or web published? Do you want to make it a PDF file? How do you want to do it?

Well, now that we have a designated interest in this subject that will determine how well this guide is, we need to first state that this guide will be published first and foremost as a PDF file so it can be opened and viewed by most everyone online.
The printing of the book will be on ones own terms and used for absolutely no profit gains. This will be created by a non-profit Corporation (yes ZHN is now a non-profit corporation) and ZPI is a free discussion forum. There are no fees to be a member of either of them, and I am not here to steel your ideas and strategies for personal profit - so there should be no worries about this. This will complete your reason for having the site and will help for those outside of the group in a whole.

If you do want to publish it as an actual book, then I highly recommend Lulu.com. They don't charge you anything, but take a fee from the cost of the sale.
They can let you sell one at a time, or you can have hundreds printed up for resale. They will sell it right from their site, or you could set it up to sell it from your own site (The sale still goes through them, and they send you the money after their fee is out.)
They are who I was going to go through when I was going to write my own.

If everyone here casts a poll to see if this shall become a profitable publication, then it shall be as such with the agreement of Eliot and myself coming to terms. We will be discussing such affairs in the background to keep the forums free of political gibberish.

If you would like to use any of my theories or oh so witty quips, NIE, feel free. As long as I get a mention in your book.

I would love to use everyones tactical views and theories as a whole, but we would love to keep this guide as a serious guide to survival. If humor is added, it is because the book needs to have some characteristics within it.

If you wish to have some information added or want to have a topic/ quote posted, please post the information or link such topic so that I can view the information and edit it into the publication.

If you wish to become a guide "Key" character please insert a plain text name saying you wish to be a key. "Keys" are basically the role characters that play examples within publications and how to manuals.
[I.E- Look at Little Johnny- He decided to hot dog a kill and got too close to the zombie. The ending effect was a harsh bite from the zombie he was trying to kill. Now Mr. Joe has to shoot both Little Johnny and the zombie. Such a shame.]

Well, that is all for now. Will be waiting for responses from you all to see what your out take on this subject is.

I think one of the most important Articles we have on this entire site, is the one regarding Electricity and how long it will be in operation. That was MY big question for Z-Day, and it answered it ten times over.
I would love to see if we can get that Authors permission for a reprint in the Guide.

On Z-Day, the first thing I am going to do is scream like a little girl. Once that's out, I will be ready to function.

Quote:
I found the "how long before the electricity fails" article the most useful and think that should go into said guide.

NOTE: Quote is paraphrased. Captainrads screwed up the original. Will be fixed as soon as possible.

Heheh. Um. No. I can try, but ... uh ... it's not the easiest to get a hold of her and she wasn't terribly open to me using it in the first place, mostly because it belongs to another magazine. It is going to make the most sense to simply cite it.

In the book, it should mention best locations for safe havens, do's and donts for where to build and protect said area.
Training programs so that the reader can know how to train (e.g. joging, shin ups, push up, etc, etc, etc)
Also, perferable weapons: What weapon would be ideal for different situations (eg: what to use in close quarters, shovel, knife, sword, baseball bat so on, and so forth)
Thats all i got so far

The one word that describes how i live: B.E.B.Z
(Bullets, Explosions, Babes, Zombies)

Oh, yeah, you heard me! THE MUPPET SHOW SAID SO!!!

I'm really bored, so I'm going to write up a paper on vehicles of all sorts, pros and cons of certain types, and that kind of thing. If I really have a lot of free time I might write a quick motor vehicle troubleshooting guide of some sort.
Edit: Maybe some other time.... open office screwed up as usual and I lost what I had typed, so I kind of lost all motivation. Maybe I'll start later tonight.......

Please take a look at the PDF file at the top of the page. This is what I had when I stopped writing it a couple months ago. Though I have a shit load of paperwork on different tactics that could be used and mostly terms and frases that I had researched through the year.
This is what the main look will be like, but the content will change due to the fact that this was an old start. We need a new start.
The way I had started these publications was as a multiple book series of information on specific areas, information needed for specified tasks, etc...
(IE- One manual would be general zombie survival; the second would be specific strategies to defend yourself in your house, work, or on the go; the third would have statistics and more information on weapons and tools that you can use and where to find them, etc...)
Give me some input.

NO

Ok i think this is a noble effort, but i have one request. ZSG is ok but some of the best survival guides start by talking about survival first. then they get into their specialty focus. SAS for military survival and tactics. Shenku for your average traveler to your dedicated vagabond. As a ridiculous example "Networking Survival guide". First it teaches you what networking is then it teaches you how to network. Then it goes on to tactics of networking.
First establish you are a survival guide. Then establish it is a survival guide made by and for survivors of the great zombiclypse as your shtick. People will read it for the shtick and keep it for the truth/ usefulness of it. Case in point with shenku by Zeek, http://www.shenku.com/index.html has a small exert of the something like 291 pages. The shtick is its a ridiculous made up religion. The keeping factor is that its amazing with real and true facts on survival related information. You dont need silly artwork for your survival guide like this but just take a look at some of the content and set up. might help you in your venture.
And as for Zombie definition there should be multiple definitions. Just like there are earthquakes, volcanoes, thermal blow outs, methane bubbles, and tectonic freeways doesnt mean a survival guide on Geo thermal activity should clump it all into seismic disturbance.
Theoretical Zombie- A person or people devoid of knowledge of the subject they represent.
(this is a fun joke to throw in there as ultimately dry humor)
A Zombie- A violent functioning individual with out higher brain function driven by most basic needs. Needs often include hunger, territory or sexual impulse. Often including cannibalism, rape or murder since there is no memory rational or reasoning present.
A Zonbi- A person through a voodoo ritual killed and brought back to life with out speach or free will. Zonbi do the bidding of a priest or high priest without thought or ration.
(referance on spelling through a hatian priestess name witheld)
A Chemical induced Zombie- A person exposed to a chemical substance that strips them of consciousness, but not baser instincts fear and compacity to function. Nerve gas, is a rumored culprit during WW2. Facts have not been recovered of actual atrocities reported by American troops as Nerve gas induced zombies according to my research.
A Biological induced Zombie- A person carrying an infectious parasite or bio mass that makes the individual function without conscious thought or through altered states. Usually this person is driven to spread the infection to another host.
A Viral Zombie- A person with a viral disorder that causes them to loose all higher brain function but the body remains fully or partly functional.
A reanimated corpse Zombie- A person, who through some means unknown to us at this point, that is deceased reanimates with no memory or higher brain function. The current theory is that they transmit this reanimating agent through fluid transfer. These reanimated corpses are driven by hunger alone and according to a majority of different fictional stories cannibalizm is the only food they choose to acquire. As of yet this type zombie exists only in fiction, but we do not discount the possibility of its existence.
Superhuman Zombie- A person with the impulse to only eat other humans, retaining all knowledge memories and life experiences, who can not under any circumstance be destroyed and has the strength, speed and endurance surpassing that of the pre-infected host. First historical reference is to superhuman zombie is the "Draugr" of Proto-germanic Scandinavian and Norse mythology.
Cannibal- A normal human who consumes the flesh of other human beings.

WHAT. We're using plagiarized material and calling it our own!? That needs to change. Immediately.

I know it says "Reprinted with author's permission", but without a listed author it's still plagiarism.

Hm....when did that get there...

Either way, I don't like the idea of posting the materials of others. I feel like most of our old articles are due for a proper update as it is. So...if anyone wants to do some rewriting, feel free.
